With SLAAIT work now kicking into gear, we’re excited to announce a wave of new content coming in May! Headlining this wave of new content will be our Real Voices series – interviews with real people, where we explore the impact that AI technology has on their work. Our goal with this series is to highlight the opportunities and challenges that AI technology brings to a number of professions. For our first run of this series, were focusing on educators, artists, journalists, and librarians. Look for Real Voices videos published on the SLAAIT website in mid/late May.

We’re also excited to offer a new round of SLAAIT Briefings this month, which broadly focus on AI-related legislation and policy, as well as the role of libraries in an AI-powered world. The first installment in this latest round of briefings is already available –  AI Policy at the State Level. This briefing provides an overview of state-level AI legislation in the U.S., and offers analysis of emerging trends in state-level legislation, with the goal of providing a clear picture of how states are attempting to craft AI policy. For those interested in practical applications of already accessible AI technology, this briefing used a custom GPT to perform policy analysis on the dataset of state-level AI legislation that we built. Look for another installment in the SLAAIT AI Tools series in the near future, detailing how SAIPA (custom GPT, State AI Policy Analyzer) was developed, trained, and used.
